Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves placing sperm directly into a woman's uterus around the time of ovulation. The goal is to increase the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes, where fertilization occurs, thereby improving the chances of pregnancy.Here’s how the process typically works:1. Ovarian Stimulation (Optional): Sometimes, fertility medications like Clomid or gonadotropins are prescribed to stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs.2. Monitoring Ovulation: The woman’s ovulation cycle is closely monitored through blood tests and ultrasounds to determine the optimal time for insemination.3. Sperm Collection and Preparation: A sperm sample is collected from the male partner or a sperm donor. The sperm is then processed in the laboratory to concentrate the healthiest sperm and remove impurities.4. Insemination: On the day of ovulation (or when a mature follicle is ready), the prepared sperm is injected directly into the uterus using a thin catheter. A blastocyst is an embryo that has developed for five to six days after fertilisation. In blastocyst transfer, embryos are cultured in the laboratory incubator to the blastocyst stage before they are transferred to the womb.
